Kenji Inoue (born February 15, 1929) is a Japanese scholar of American literature and translator. He was born in Tokyo and graduated from the University of Tokyo's English department in 1951, completing his graduate studies in 1953. He held various academic positions including lecturer and professor at Meiji University and Oberlin University, where he became an honorary professor in 1995 after retiring. He is known for his complete translation of John Updike's 'Rabbit' series, which significantly contributed to the understanding of American literature in Japan.
