Kenji Kitanishi is a Japanese psychiatrist born on January 9, 1946, in Saitama Prefecture. He specializes in Morita therapy. Kitanishi graduated from Tokyo Medical University in 1970 and earned his medical doctorate in 1978 for his research on diurnal variation in depression. He studied at the University of Basel's depression research department in 1972. From 1979 to 1995, he was a lecturer at Tokyo Medical University Hospital. He later became a professor at Nihon Joshi University and director of the Morita Therapy Research Institute in 2007.
