Kenneth Appel (1932 – 2013) was an American mathematician and university professor born in Brooklyn. He was a member of the American Mathematical Society. Appel passed away at the age of 81 in Dover due to esophageal cancer. His contributions to mathematics, particularly in the field of graph theory and computer-assisted proofs, have had a lasting impact. Appel is notably recognized for being one of the first to prove the Four Color Theorem using a computer.
