He was kidnapped on September 16, 2004, in the Al-Mansour district of Baghdad, Iraq, alongside two American colleagues, Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong. His kidnapping and subsequent murder drew international attention and highlighted the dangers faced by expatriates in conflict zones.
