Kenneth C. Edelin (1939-2013) was a prominent American physician and advocate for abortion rights and healthcare for indigent patients. As the first black chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Boston City Hospital, he gained notoriety after being convicted in 1975 of manslaughter following a legal abortion. He was acquitted in 1976 by the State Supreme Court. Edelin served as a professor at Boston University, chaired the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was President of Planned Parenthood for three years. He received the Maggie Award in 2008 for his contributions.
