Kenneth S. Norris was an American mammalogist, renowned for his work in marine biology. He and William N. McFarland first described the vaquita porpoise as a new species in 1958 after studying skull samples found on the beach. However, it wasn't until nearly thirty years later, in 1985, that new samples allowed scientists to fully describe the species' external appearance. Norris's research significantly contributed to the understanding of marine mammals and highlighted the importance of conservation efforts for endangered species.
