Born on April 18, 1963, in Tokyo, he has created notable works including 'Hat Man Can't Sleep' (1992), 'Game Player' (1998), 'Himaari' (2000-2002), and 'The Night Has a Thousand Eyes' (2006-present). His only non-gag work is 'Without Saying Goodbye' (2010), which deals with the theme of 'the death of a wife', earning a nomination for the 2011 Manga Taisho. His nicknames include Ue Ken and Uekken.
