Carlson was noted for his work as a guitarist and keyboardist, notably accompanying Aldo Nova on his album and tour in 1984. He also contributed to several albums by the legendary British band UFO during the 1990s and 2000s and was involved in projects like Someone Somewhere with vocalist Jodi Essex in 2005.
