Kevin Laffan was a British playwright, screenwriter, author, actor, and stage director, born on May 24, 1922, and passing on March 11, 2003. He is most renowned for creating the ITV soap opera Emmerdale Farm in 1972, which was renamed Emmerdale in 1989. Raised in a Catholic family of fourteen children, his upbringing influenced much of his work. Laffan began his career as a call boy at the Theatre Royal in Bilston and later founded a repertory company in Reading. He published his first novel, Virgins are in Short Supply, in 2001.
