He debuted as a professional boxer on October 1, 2016, at Oslo Spektrum, becoming the first professional boxer to fight in Norway since 1981. He won his debut match against German boxer Christian Dulz by knockout, which served as a warm-up for the title match between Cecilia Brækhus and Anne-Sophie Mathis. On November 4, 2023, Melhus won the WBO intercontinental title in cruiserweight after defeating Finnish boxer Samuli Kärkkäinen.
