Khalid al-Islambuli was an Egyptian military officer born on January 15, 1955, who was involved in the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat during the annual military parade on October 6, 1981. His main motive for the assassination was Sadat's signing of the Camp David Accords with Israel and his more progressive plans for Egypt. He was tried in a military court, convicted, and sentenced to death by firing squad. After his execution on April 15, 1982, he became a martyr for many in the Islamic world and an inspiration for Islamic movements.
