Khamrokhon Zarifi is a Tajik diplomat and politician, born on December 25, 1948, in the Kulob District. He studied mathematics and physics at the State Pedagogical Institute in Kulob from 1966 to 1971 and served as a lecturer there until joining the Red Army in 1972. Zarifi worked with the KGB until the Soviet Union's collapse, transitioning to the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. He served as Deputy Foreign Minister and later as Tajikistan's Ambassador to the OSCE, Austria, and the USA before becoming Foreign Minister in December 2006.
