He served as the chief of staff at the Presidential Office of National Policies and held the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Human Resources Development. Although he was designated as Prime Minister of South Korea by President Park Geun-hye on November 2, 2016, his nomination was withdrawn just six days later on November 8. His political career has been marked by significant roles in education and national policy.
