She was born in Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do, and graduated from Changwoo Girls' High School, later leaving the Dance Department at Kyunghee University. Standing at 162 cm tall, she is often referred to as the original beauty actress. In 2013, she revealed that she underwent several cosmetic surgeries to enhance her appearance, including procedures to reduce under-eye wrinkles.
