She achieved great success in her swimming career, clinching Olympic gold as part of the 4x100 meter freestyle relay team in the 1976 Olympics. In addition to her Olympic success, Peyton earned five gold medals at the Pan American Games, showcasing her talent and competitiveness in the sport before her untimely passing on December 13, 1986, in Stanford, California.
