He was an honorary member of the Japanese Society of Virology and served as the former president of both the Japanese Society for Molecular Biology and the Japanese Society for Protein Science. Miura held various academic positions including professor at Chiba Institute of Technology, Gakushuin University, and the Open University of Japan, as well as being an honorary professor at the National Institute of Genetics and the University of Tokyo.
