Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, born on March 23, 1953, is an Indian billionaire entrepreneur and the chairperson and managing director of Biocon Limited, a biotechnology company based in Bangalore, India. She is also the chairperson of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. In 2014, she received the Othmer Gold Medal for her significant contributions to the advancement of science and chemistry. Mazumdar-Shaw has been recognized among the top 50 women in business by Financial Times and ranked by Forbes as one of the world's most powerful women in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
