Catherine Ita Ahern, known as Kit Ahern, was an influential Irish Fianna Fáil politician. Born on January 13, 1915, she served as a Teachta Dála for Kerry North from 1977 to 1981 and as a Senator from 1964 to 1977. As a trailblazer, Ahern was the first woman to chair Kerry County Council and was one of only three women elected to the 21st Dáil. Her political stance reflected a blend of Irish nationalism and social conservatism, and she notably supported traditional family values while opposing changes to marriage laws.
