Kitty Simek (born April 25, 1988) is a Hungarian woman known for fatally shooting her abusive stepfather while he was asleep on August 30, 2002. She committed the act with an unlicensed firearm, a response to years of abuse suffered by herself and her seriously ill mother. Following a court trial, she was sentenced to two years in a juvenile detention center. Her case sparked controversy and protests from civil organizations. Subsequently, due to significant changes in her personal circumstances, she received clemency and had her sentence suspended.
