Kiyotaka Chinzei was a Japanese geologist and paleontologist known for his expertise in molluscan fossils and the geological history of the Japanese archipelago. He was an emeritus professor at Kyoto University and Osaka Gakuin University. Chinzei earned a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Tokyo in 1961 with a dissertation titled 'Geological and Paleocommunal Ecological Studies of the Mabuchi River Valley Neogene.' He was born on December 6, 1933, in Shimojo Village, Nagano Prefecture.
