Kjell Åsen was a Norwegian author and educator born on September 6, 1931, in Hægeland, Vest-Agder. He moved to Telemark in 1961, where he served as a teacher and head of the school district in Nissedal for several years. Åsen authored numerous children's and youth books and contributed novellas to several anthologies for adults. He also wrote radio plays for NRK, winning the NRK radio play competition in 1975 with 'Kjem du Eldbjørg?'. In later years, he wrote lyrics for a local musical, with music composed by Sigvald Tveit.
