Klaus Peter Sauer (February 2, 1941 - November 12, 2022) was a German evolutionary biologist and ecologist. He studied biology, genetics, chemistry, and mathematics at Justus Liebig University Giessen and earned his doctorate in 1969. He served as an assistant at universities in Giessen and Freiburg before becoming a professor of evolutionary research at the University of Bielefeld in 1979. Later, he directed the Institute for Evolutionary Biology and Ecology at the University of Bonn. Sauer was involved in numerous scientific societies and programs throughout his career.
