Klaus von Klitzing is a German physicist born on June 28, 1943. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1985 for his discovery of the quantum Hall effect. He was born in Schuroda and pursued his studies in physics before focusing on research in strong magnetic fields at the Grenoble research center in France. In 1980, he became a professor at the University of Munich, Germany. Since 1985, von Klitzing has served as the director of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart.
