Konstantin 'Koča' Popović was a Yugoslav military leader born in Belgrade in 1908. He volunteered in the Spanish Civil War from 1937 to 1939 and later served as the commander of the 1st Proletarian Division of Josip Broz Tito's Partisan Army during World War II. He earned the nickname 'the man who saved the partisans' for his crucial role in breaching German lines during the Battle of Sutjeska. In addition to his military leadership, he held significant political positions within the socialist government of Yugoslavia.
