For over 50 years, he focused on creating works based on the characters of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, seeking to innovate calligraphy by returning to the ancient origins of kanji. He led the Kameko Association and hosted the Kameko Exhibition at Ueno Museum for 50 editions as of 2019. His birth name was Shigemi Katō.
