Koichi Kashiwaya, born in December 1949, is a prominent aikido practitioner holding an 8th dan (Hachidan) in Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. He began his aikido training in 1969 and trained under Koichi Tohei from 1970 to 1973. After becoming an uchideshi to Tohei in 1975, he established the Rocky Mountain Ki Society in Boulder, Colorado upon completion in 1977. Kashiwaya is also the founder of The Midland Ki Federation, which features dojos in various cities including Denver and Austin.
