He has also held positions such as the 107th chairman of the Yamanashi Prefectural Assembly and has been a member of the assembly for four terms. Kōmei comes from a politically active family; his brother, Masaaki Yokouchi, served as the governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, and his father, Kan Yokouchi, was also a mayor of Nirasaki.
