Komiya Yasutaka was a Japanese dyer and craftsman born on November 12, 1925, in Asakusa, Tokyo. He was declared a Living National Treasure on April 26, 1978, for his work in the important intangible cultural asset, Edo Komon dyeing. Trained by his father, Kōsuke, he revived the art of creating Edo patterns by studying and collecting old katagami (stencils) and improved the fabric patterns. He lived and worked in Tokyo, where he also taught his son, Yasumasa.
