Koos Aarse was a Dutch journalist and politician, born on August 8, 1914, in Rotterdam. He worked at the newspaper 'Voorwaarts' as an assistant shipping editor and later as a provincial editor. During WWII, he joined the resistance after leaving the newspaper. He was imprisoned by the SD, held in Vught and Sachsenhausen, and was liberated by the Russians in 1945. After the war, he contributed to 'Het Vrije Volk', serving as an editorial chief and later as deputy editor. He became the mayor of Hellevoetsluis and retired in 1979, passing away in 1982.
