Kōshū Tani is a Japanese science fiction writer born on March 30, 1951, in Itami, Japan. He graduated from the Osaka Institute of Technology and volunteered in Nepal and the Philippines. Tani debuted as a writer in 1979 with his story '137th Mobile Brigade.' He is renowned for his hard science fiction, winning the Seiun Award three times, which includes two Best Novel awards and one for Best Short Story, as well as the Nitta Jirō Culture Award. He is actively involved in several writers' organizations and resides in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture.
