Kries Mahadewsing was a Surinamese politician born on December 16, 1942, in Nickerie. He worked in education, eventually becoming a school principal, and was involved with the Hindustani party VHP. Elected in 1977, he faced imprisonment after a military coup in 1980. Later, he served as deputy director in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy. He was instrumental in forming a new political party after 1996 elections. Mahadewsing resigned as minister in 1998 following a conflict with a fellow parliamentarian. He died on February 19, 2013, at the age of 70 in Utrecht, Netherlands.
