Kusumasiri Gunawardena (née Amarasinghe) was a Ceylonese politician, born in 1912, known for her role in women's rights and her political involvement with the Lanka Sama Samaja Party. She made history as the second elected female Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka. After marrying Philip Gunawardena, she actively participated in politics, especially during the WWII era when they faced detainment in India. Her legacy continues through her sons, who have held significant political positions, including the current Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
