Kuwasi Balagoon, born Donald Weems, was an American political activist and member of the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Army. He became a prominent black nationalist in New York City during the late 1960s after being radicalized by racial unrest and his army service. Balagoon was involved in the Panther 21 case and later convicted for bank robbery. After becoming disillusioned with the Panthers, he joined the more radical Black Liberation Army, escaping prison twice and participating in a notorious robbery. He died in prison from AIDS-related pneumonia at the age of 39.
