Kyōtarō Imai was a Japanese haiku poet born on March 27, 1928, in Chiba Prefecture. He was invited to haiku by Teikazu Ōhara during his middle school years. In 1969, he joined the 'Tsur' and studied under Yūji Ishizuka. He published several notable works including 'Mugikabu-bōshi' and 'Uminari-boshi' and often explored themes of nature using simple language. His unique style merged colloquial and classical expressions, a deviation from traditional haiku techniques, frequently addressing loneliness, with motifs of wind and water prevalent in his poetry. He passed away on June 27, 2012.
