La Ferne Ellis Price was an infielder and pitcher in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during the 1944 season, known simply as 'Ferne'. Born in Butte, Montana, she graduated from Wiley High School before joining the Milwaukee Chicks. After her brief baseball career, she earned degrees in physical education and later a Ph.D., becoming a physical instructor and coach. Recognized for her contributions to sports and education, she received several awards and had a field named after her at ISU. Price passed away in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 2016.
