Larry LaPrise, born Roland Lawrence LaPrise, was an American songwriter known for creating the popular song 'Hokey Pokey' in the early 1940s. He was born on November 11, 1912, in Detroit, Michigan, and his version of the song was first recorded by his group, the Ram Trio, in 1948. LaPrise held the U.S. copyright for the song awarded in 1950. He faced disputes over authorship and copyright infringement but settled out of court. After his music career, he worked for the Post Office in Ketchum, Idaho, until his death on April 4, 1996.
