Lars Högberg (1936-2019) was a Swedish physicist and engineer who served as the director-general of the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate (SKI) from 1989 to 1999. He obtained a licentiate in plasma physics from Uppsala University in 1961. Högberg held multiple important roles in nuclear safety internationally, including member of the IAEA's INSAG and president of the 1999 review meeting for the Convention on Nuclear Safety. He also contributed to the development of nuclear safety laws in the UAE and was involved in reviews of nuclear safety prior to EU expansion.
