Laurie Skreslet is a Canadian mountaineer, renowned for being the first Canadian to reach the summit of Mount Everest on October 5, 1982. He accomplished this notable feat via the southeast col route as part of the 1982 Canadian Mount Everest Expedition, which took five years to plan and required substantial funding and equipment.
