Lazaro Sosa Barrera was a Cuban-born American Hall of Fame thoroughbred racehorse trainer known for his remarkable career spanning nearly 50 years. Born in Havana, Barrera trained several champions, including Bold Forbes and Affirmed, the latter winning the U.S. Triple Crown in 1978. He became the first trainer to secure four consecutive Eclipse Awards and was the leading money-winning trainer from 1977 to 1980. Barrera was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1979. He passed away in 1991, and the Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes is named in his honor.
