Leanid Ivanavich Sharshniow (1938-2014) was a Soviet and Russian military propagandist and major general. He led propaganda during the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and predicted the Islamic Revolution in Iran two years before Khomeini's return. From 1979 to 1989, he was head of the special propaganda unit of the CPSU Central Committee during the Soviet-Afghan War. He co-authored the Russian concept of hybrid warfare regarding information warfare. He received several awards, including the Order of the Red Star and the Order for Service to the Motherland.
