Lena Burrell Prewitt (1931-2024) was a pioneering African-American educator, notable for being the first African-American female professor at the University of Alabama. Born in Boiling Springs, Alabama, she earned her master's degree in 1955 and her EdD in 1961. Prewitt worked at NASA on the Saturn V project with Wernher von Braun before transitioning to academia. In 1970, she joined the University of Alabama and also held positions at Stillman College. She is remembered for her contributions to education and has one son and two grandchildren.
