Lena van Giesen is a German cell physiologist born in 1987. She serves as an associate professor at the Department of Biology at NTNU. Her primary research interests focus on understanding how animals perceive environmental signals and adapt their behavior accordingly. In 2022, she received a €1.7 million ERC starting grant to study the coral Lophelia pertusa, commonly found in the Trondheimsfjord, examining the functioning of its sensory organs and the impacts of environmental changes on the coral and its ecosystem.
