Leo Makkonen (born June 4, 1948) is a prominent Finnish Orthodox bishop. He served as the Bishop of Joensuu starting February 25, 1979, then became the Archbishop of Oulu from 1980 to 1996. Makkonen was elected Archbishop of Helsinki and all Finland on October 27, 2001, formally assuming the position on December 16, 2001. Under his leadership, the archbishopric moved from Karelia to Helsinki in 2018, leading to a change in the church's title to Archbishop of Helsinki and all Finland. He was ordained a deacon in 1973 and later a priest.
