León Ávalos y Vez (1906–1991) was a prominent Mexican mechanical engineer known for his influential roles in engineering education. He was the founding director-general of the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) from 1943 to 1946 and directed the National School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in 1943. Born in Atlixco, Puebla, he earned both a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from IPN and a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1929, demonstrating a strong academic foundation in his field.
