Leon J. LaPorte is a retired United States Army General, born on October 5, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island. He served as the commander of the 1st Cavalry Division from 1995 to 1997 and was the commander of U.S. forces in Korea until 2006. Notably, in October 1990, he was the chief of staff for the 1st Cavalry Division, which was deployed as part of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
