Leonard Michael Collard is a renowned Noongar elder, professor, and Australian Research Council chief investigator at the School of Indigenous Studies, University of Western Australia. As a Whadjuk/Balardong Noongar, he focuses on literature and communications, researching Noongar interpretive histories and cultural models. He initiated a significant study of Noongar place names in 2011, aiming to develop a public resource with 25,000 words. In 2014, he announced the creation of Noongarpedia, the first online Aboriginal encyclopaedia, to help preserve the endangered Noongar language.
