Leonard Amayakovich Oganesyan (October 15, 1925 – September 13, 2013) was a Soviet and Russian specialist in numerical analysis, known as one of the creators of the finite element method (FEM). In 1963, he published one of the first works in the USSR and globally that modernly formulated the method. Oganesyan and his students developed algorithms for solving heat and mass transfer problems, widely acknowledged internationally. He worked at the Leningrad Economic-Mathematical Institute from 1959 to 1985, leading the numerical methods laboratory and guiding several graduate students.
