Leonard Sorkin was an American violinist born on January 12, 1916, in Chicago. He trained under Mischa Mischakoff and joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at 18, remaining until 1943. Sorkin served as concertmaster of the ABC Symphony from 1946 to 1954 and was a founding member of the Fine Arts Quartet, playing first violin until 1982. In 1983, he became the founding director of the Institute of Chamber Music at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He passed away on June 7, 1985, and is buried in Milwaukee.
