Leonora Carrington was a British-born surrealist painter and writer, awarded the Order of the British Empire as an Officer. Born on April 6, 1917, she lived most of her adult life in Mexico City and was one of the last surviving artists linked to the surrealist movement that began in the 1930s. Additionally, she was a founding member of the women's liberation movement in Mexico during the 1970s.
