Lester Ziffren was an American reporter and Hollywood screenwriter born on April 30, 1906, in Rock Island, Illinois. He started his career with United Press and was one of the first reporters on the Spanish Civil War, befriending Ernest Hemingway. After moving to Hollywood, Ziffren wrote movie screenplays, including five for the Charlie Chan series. He served at the U.S. Embassy in Chile during World War II. Passing away on November 12, 2007, of congestive heart disease in New York City, he left behind his daughter Didi.
